There are three questions I am asked on a regular basis:
1. When are you and Ryan getting married? (In a judgmental way)
2. Don’t you want to have children? (In a condescending way)
3. Why do you go to Las Vegas so much? (In a judgmental and condescending way)
As of today, I cannot answer the first two questions. However, I am here to address question number 3. For the record, we average 4-5 trips to Sin City every year. Usually we go for March Madness, Halloween, Memorial Day, and then one summer trip and one possible fall/ winter trip. So why do we go there so much?
Two words: Open Containers. There are very few places in the United States where you can walk around the streets with alcohol in your hands. The only places I am aware of are Key West, Savannah (on the riverfront), New Orleans, Las Vegas, and my neighborhood! There is some sort of satisfaction leaving a hotel with a drink (in a glass) and bringing it into another hotel. It just feels wrong, but in fabulous Las Vegas it is oh-so-right.
The other main reason why we go there so much is the fact that anything “goes” in Las Vegas. Literally, ANYTHING GOES.
You can do a handstand at 3pm in the middle of a casino and people will not think it is unusual.
You can sit at a bar and drink booze until you develop a bedsore on your butt.
You can order bacon as your entrée and the server will be happy to oblige.
If you choose to, you can even sit in a baby stroller as a grown man.
You can hang out in the VIP lounge all day (if you can get in) and get so drunk that you lick your friend’s faces.
If you are a bit more creative, you can conjure up a stupid “hydration system” to monitor your water/alcohol ratio. Which is exactly what we did!
So here is how it worked: Each member of our group was equipped with a mini notepad and an array of stickers. Each time we drank water, we placed a “smiley face” sticker in the book. For any alcohol consumption, we would place a sticker of various types of booze in the book.
Here is the ammunition we started with:
Now here is what our books looked like at the end of our first day!
As you can see, we were clearly not drinking enough water!!
Just like any Vegas trip…we had our good moments:
And our low moments:
So after four days of monitoring our water/booze, it was time to look at the results. How did we do? If I had to give us a grade, I would say we earned a C. Yes we did a great job of marking down our stickers, but we didn’t do such a good job of drinking the water!
Nonetheless, we managed to have yet another successful excursion in Vegas!
Next stop is (or was) South Beach, Miami!! (I am a bit delayed on my writing)
